OMV Petrom has commissioned Kraftanlagen Romania as the general contractor to build two green hydrogen production plants with capacities of 20 MW and 35 MW at the Petrobrazi refinery. The delivery of the first electrolysis module for the 20 MW project marked a key milestone in its implementation.
As part of the EPC scope, Kraftanlagen Romania is responsible for construction and civil engineering work, prefabrication and installation of piping and steel structures, procurement and installation of plant components, electrical and instrumentation work, and the painting and insulation of piping, steel structures and plant components. The company is also responsible for non-destructive testing and scaffolding and lifting operations. In the coming months, the focus will be on integrating the electrolysis modules into the existing refinery infrastructure.
The first phase of the 20 MW plant will generate around 3,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year. This hydrogen will be used to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel (HVO), thereby significantly contributing to the decarbonisation of the transport sector and the sustainable transformation of Romania’s energy system.
