Germany’s most sustainable business district

In Frankfurt am Main, they are building the future: One of the largest and most innovative business districts in Europe is currently being developed there. s the “green heart of Airport City”, the Gateway Gardens at Frankfurt airport is the first commercial complex in Germany that received the highest possible rating of “DGNB Gold” from the German Society for Sustainable Building (DGNB).

In October 2019, Europa-Center Gateway Gardens GmbH & Co. KG commissioned Kraftanlagen Energies & Services with the conception, supply and installation of the entire fire extinguishing technology for the car park below the Europa Center building complex, which provides parking spaces for 550 cars. Across three levels of the underground car park (a total area of 21,620 m²), Kraftanlagen Energies & Services supplied and installed 2,550 sprinklers, 28 wall hydrants and 11 water removal valves for firefighters. In the 14 upper storeys, a total of 41 wall hydrants and 28 water removal valves for firefighters were installed in five stairwells.

Kraftanlagen Energies & Services will work at the site of the high-rise building complex until June 2022 because it is also responsible for its water-based services, i.e. heating, sanitary facilities and refrigeration systems. The business district, which encompasses 35 hectares in total, is scheduled to be completed in 2026. Gateway Gardens will then offer easily accessible, state-of-the-art workspaces to more than 20,000 people.

One of the challenges of this project was that we had to work under the tough conditions of anti-COVID-19 measures. The construction is on schedule in spite of multiple lockdowns. The construction management has quickly adjusted to the new conditions. For example, video conferencing was used for most construction meetings. We also responded to other issues with great flexibility and confidence and demonstrated in the process that the customer can count on us.
