On the premises of the Barmbek medical centre, the energy centre of the hospital was completely renovated and rebuilt as an auxiliary and peak load heating plant that ensures the supply of the medical centre as well as that of the district heating network.
Two boiler plants generate hot water at an operating temperature of between 90 and 136°C in flow. The entire plant is safeguarded at a pressure of 16 bar and a temperature of 160 °C. The dual-fuel firing of the boiler is done with natural gas and EL-type heating oil.
Downstream exhaust-heated feed water preheaters for return water makes a low exhaust temperature possible and therefore a hot water generation with an efficiency of > 96 %.
The contract, which was awarded to Kraftanlagen Hamburg in October 2005, includes the execution, detailed and construction engineering, procurement and erection as well as the commissioning and documentation of the technical systems as technical general contractor.
A particular challenge was to preserve the special charm of the listed boiler building for the future.
"The conversion of the boiler house built in 1914 not only resulted in the generation of environmentally friendly heat but it also provides Hamburg's Barmbek city district with another architectural highlight," said our customer Vattenfall Europe Hamburg at the inauguration of the district heating plant.
