LAVA emission monitoring

The decommissioning of the storage facility and evaporation system (LAVA) on the premises of the Karlsruhe reprocessing plant required the separation of the emission monitoring. For this purpose, a new emission monitoring system for the exhaust air flow had to be built.

This new system is used for representative sampling and continuous emissions measurement of a partial air flow of LAVA's exhaust air flow. It is supposed to be installed at the base of the LAVA chimney to guarantee short partial air flow paths.

Kraftanlagen Heidelberg was tasked with planning the construction and the commissioning of the required components.

This included:

  • Disassembly work at the chimney base
  • Revision of the exhaust air pipe in the chimney
  • Expansion of a working platform in the chimney
  • Construction and commissioning of a volume flow measurement in the chimney
  • Construction and commissioning of a system for isokinetic sampling (sensors, nozzles, piping)
  • Air conditioning of the chimney base
  • Construction and commissioning of the counter gas supply to connect the analytic equipment

The project was concluded successfully in 2011.
