In order to supply its own energy, Flughafen München GmbH operates CHP plants with a total electrical power performance of approx. 25 MW.
In order to meet the requirements of an environmentally friendly and energy efficient operation of the energy supply now and in the future, the existing diesel engines were replaced with natural gas-powered CHP plants.
Four CHPP modules with a combined electrical power performance of 17 MW were newly built. The plant was designed in a way that allows the addition of two additional modules.
Because the supply security requirements of Munich airport are extremely high, the existing gas-diesel units will continue to be used for emergency power supply.
The contract, which was awarded to Kraftanlagen Hamburg in December 2014, includes execution, detailed and construction engineering, procurement and erection as well as commissioning and documentation of the CHPP modules as technical general contractor.
Engineering, installation and the initial commissioning only took 9 months.
