At its Moorburg location in Hamburg, the energy provider Vattenfall operates a hard coal-fired power plant with two blocks that each feature an electrical power performance of 865 MW and a heat extraction of up to 650 MW.
In order to supply the power plant blocks with auxiliary steam for starting up and warmth retention, two steam generators were installed as water pipe boilers at the site of the power plant.
The steam generator supplies hot steam with a working overpressure of 18 bar and a steam temperature of 280°C. The steam generator is fired with EL-type heating oil.
Particular challenges during this project were the installation of steam generators during ongoing installation work at the power plant and the high demands of the power plant operator on the execution and documentation of the plants.
The contract, which was awarded to Kraftanlagen Hamburg, included execution, detailed and construction engineering, procurement and erection as well as commissioning and documentation of the steam and generation plant as technical general contractor.
